Packing that's matched to what you actually own

Good packing is less about wrapping everything in the same material and more about matching the right protection to each item — glassware needs different handling than a wardrobe, and a flat-screen television needs different handling than a stack of books. Urban Relocations offers packing as a standalone service or as part of a full relocation, using bubble wrap, corrugated sheets, stretch film and wooden crating depending on what's being packed.

This service is useful for households preparing for a move themselves but wanting professional packing to avoid breakages, as well as businesses that need equipment or stock packed for storage or transport. We provide packing support across our branch cities including Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and others.

How it works

• A walkthrough of items to be packed, noting anything fragile, heavy or irregularly shaped
• Selection of appropriate packing material for each category of item
• Packing of individual items, followed by boxing and sealing of cartons
• Labelling of cartons by room or category to help with organised unpacking later

Kitchen items usually take the most time to pack well, since crockery, glassware and appliances all need slightly different handling — plates are typically packed vertically with padding between each piece, while glasses and cups get individually wrapped. Books, being heavy, are best packed in smaller cartons so they remain manageable to lift, while lighter items like cushions and linen can go into larger cartons.

For furniture, stretch film protects surfaces from scratches and dust during transit without leaving any residue, and is commonly used on sofas, mattresses and wooden furniture. Wooden crating is reserved for items where a cardboard carton isn't enough protection — think glass dining tabletops, mirrors, artwork or electronic equipment being moved a long distance.

If you're packing well ahead of your move date, label cartons clearly with both the room they belong to and a general description of contents (without listing valuables specifically, for security reasons). This single habit saves a lot of time during unpacking at the new place.

Packing materials and labour are billed as part of your overall move estimate, and a GST bill is provided covering the packing charges along with the rest of the service.
