Moving a home is rarely just about boxes on a truck. There are fragile showpieces, kitchen items that need careful wrapping, wardrobes to dismantle, and a new place to set everything up in again. Urban Relocations has been helping households across India move since 2008, and our home relocation service is built around that everyday reality rather than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

Whether you are shifting within the same locality or moving city to city, the approach stays consistent: a survey of what needs to move, a team sized to the job, and packing material chosen for what is actually fragile versus what is not. We have moved homes in and around Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and several other cities, and household inventories differ quite a bit between a compact apartment and an independent house with a garden and store room.

How it works

• A survey (in person or on a video call) to understand the number of rooms, major items and any access constraints like narrow staircases or restricted lift timings
• An estimate based on volume, distance and the floor/lift situation at both ends
• Packing on the move day using bubble wrap, corrugated sheets and stretch film for furniture, appliances and loose items
• Labelled cartons so unpacking at the destination is faster and nothing gets misplaced
• Loading, transport and unloading, followed by placement of furniture as per your instructions

Most local shifts within the same city are usually completed within a day, while an intercity move usually takes longer depending on distance and traffic conditions. For heavier households with a lot of wooden furniture, we generally recommend wooden crating for items like dining tables, glass tops and large mirrors so they travel without scratches or cracks.

A practical tip before your move: sort out items you no longer need well in advance. Fewer unnecessary boxes usually means a quicker packing day and a lighter bill, since charges are largely a function of volume and distance. It also helps our team plan the vehicle and manpower more accurately during the survey.

If you need somewhere to keep your belongings between move-out and move-in dates, ask about short-term storage — it is a common requirement during home relocations, especially when possession of the new house is delayed by a few days or weeks.

We also provide relocation bills that many households need for internal record-keeping or, where applicable, for reimbursement through an employer relocation policy.
